Facebook - no ode to Facebook

I do not fancy Facebook at all. I somehow consider it a very useless thing with even more useless applications. I have a profile there but I do not see a meaning in having it. So I think I am going to take my profile away from there.

Fake identity and fake solution for our social needs..that´s what I see there mostly

I think it is to tell people: there is a reality outside, that wants to be experienced with all senses;

It is important to go out into the world, to put yourself out in a way, to leave one's comfort zone and challenge yourself.

To be genuinely tolerant we always have to ask ourselves: What is real?

Facebook is real! I've seen it :). Well, i don't think it's very fruitful to make such a big distance between whats happening offline and whats happening online. It's a connection there, and it's still real people making the profiles, updating statuses and posting pictures or items. It fills a need for keeping in touch, share, play and sometimes even make a stand. For most it's kind of an extension of ones social life for instance when they are posting pictures frm events they have been on.
Is it better to get a real hug, than writing hug on the keyboard and press "send" - certainly. Is there a similar meaning behind the action - i think so, and that makes it real for me. I'm not advocating closing oneself inside the "net", and addiction to facebook if that happens can be as difficult as any other addiction. But fake solutions or not real - i don't think so.

i have to agree with jan tore.
i have found there long lost friends and im happy to be in contact again.
i do not have a chance to visit my friends any time i want, either cause its expensive to fly from country to country or cause i dont have time or whatever. and this is a place still where i can show somehow i care and think of them.
its a very good place for networking, for exchanging ideas.
its not about real or not real, for who can say what is real life.
but its an easy way to be in contact with many many nice people. i dont see it as substitute for my social life, its rather a good complementary.
of course real life is out there and we should discover it, but it does definately exclude facebook or similar.

"To be genuinely tolerant" and politcorrect (!!!!) You forgot this word LOL.

Facebook is a very good thing. Why it's good to meet people who you know at facebook? When you see smb in the street, he/she/it/they usually tell, "Wow! So nice to meet you! Let's go and drink (beer/wine/vodka/etc) for our meeting!" But at facebook it's impossible. Kristina, if you go from facebook, it will be against temperance :-)

To Kadri and Jan Tore: I know what u mean and I understand. That´s why I wrote "mostly" in my last sentence. I dont want to be pessimistic but I anyway think that those contacts will vanish after some time. As they vanish from other communities. I also have seen how people lost friends because of facebook.
Yes I am not here to say what is real and not real. Maybe this is the form of the new social life. I dont know. But not for me. And I wrote about my impression. I do not consider my existence there for "real". People who I have hardly met are adding me to "their friends" and such. I do not feel it like real.
And to Foxpox: In a way funny comment but if I want to react in a serious way - I do not support any addiction. And I have registered several people who are just hanging on Facebook instead of going to school or out. So in that way..i do not see it as a solution either.
